π Then drive to Nokhur mountain village. The village itself fills a small depression valley in the Kopet Dag Range, and the houses are built with local boulders cemented with mud. Apart from the main street through the middle of the town, the streets are so narrow that they only just fit a car between the high stone retaining walls on each side.
ποΈ The Nokhuri people who populate this remote mountain village are quite different from other Turkmen tribes. They live in a handful of villages in the mountainous border area spanning Turkmenistan and Iran. Nokhur is the largest village with just one or two thousand people.
β¨οΈ After that, drive to Kow Ata Underground Lake, located 107 km from Ashgabat. The Turkmen name Kow-Ata means "Father of Caves." This underground cave resembles a magnificent auditorium:
π§ The cave contains clear emerald-colored thermal water with a constant temperature of 33β37Β°C.
π You should enjoy swimming in the lake.

π° Continue to Gokdepe Fortress (45 km from Ashgabat), which was attacked by the Russian Empire in December 1880. The siege lasted 23 days before the fortress was captured.
π Visit Geokdepe Mosque (Saparmyrat Hajy Mosque), built in 1995 to commemorate the battle. It is famous for its mint-turquoise dome and elegant white marble architecture.
π Afterwards visit a traditional Akhal-Teke Horse Farm, home to the national pride of Turkmenistan.
β¨ The famous Akhal-Teke horses have been bred for over 5,000 years and were admired by rulers such as Alexander the Great and Darius I.
π΄ The farm is home to more than 35 magnificent horses.
π According to local belief, anyone who touches an Akhal-Teke horse will receive good health.
